Andre used 4 1/2 sticks of butter to make multiple batches of brownies. The recipe calls for 3/4 of a stick of butter for each batch. How many batches did he make?

If Andre used 4 1/2 sticks of butter to make multiple batches of brownies, then;

4 1/2 sticks = 2 batches brownies

To know the number of batches needed for 3/4 of a stick, we will say;

3/4 stick = x

Divide both expressions;

(9/2)/(3/4) = 2/x

9/2 * 4/3 = 2/x

36/6 = 2/x

6 = 2/x

6x = 2

x = 2/6

x = 1/3

Hence she will make 1/3 batches of brownies
