-6x + 9 = 4(5 - x)

first multiply 4 by both 5 and -x

-6x + 9 = 20 + -4x

then move the x's to one side

-6x + 4x + 9 = 20

then move 9 to the 20 side

-6x + 4x = 20 - 9

then total both sides

-2x = 11

and divide by -2 so x is by itself

x = -5.5
