Let

  • h denote the number of home team fans
  • a denote the number of away team fans.

Since 75 people attended a baseball game and everyone there was a fan of either the home team or the away team; we have

(1) h+a=75.

Since the number of home team fans was 90 less than 4 times the number of away team fans, we have

(2) h=4×a-90

In (1) lets put 4×a-90 instead of h, since h=4×a-90, we have then

4×a-90+a=75

4×a+a=75+90

5×a=165 and finally

(165)/(5)=33

We know that h+a=75, if a=33 then h=42
