Answer:

Mr Kelly's made more money, $1.4 more.

Explanation:

Let x be the amount sold by Mr Sánchez class and y the amount sold by Mr Kelly class. As together they sold 60 units:

x + y = 60 (equation 1)

Given the prices and that together there made $88.20 dollars:

1.55x + 1.40y = 88.2 (equation 2)

Now we need to solve an equation system formed by equations 1 and 2.

Take equation 1 and subtract y in both sides:

x = 60 - y

Now replace this last equation in equation 2:

1.55 (60-y) + 1.40y = 88.2

93 - 1.55y +1.40y = 88.2

93 - 0.15y = 88.2

Subtract 93 in both sides:

-0.15y = 88.2-93

-0.15y=-4.8

Now divide both sides by (-0.15)

y = (-4.8)/(-0.15)

y = 32

So, Mr Kelly's class sold 32 bottles of juice. Consequently, Mr Sanchez's class must have sold 60-32=28 pies.

Mr Kelly's class made 32*$1.4=$44.8 and Mr Sanchez's 28*$1.55= $43.4

So, Mr Kelly's class made more money. It made 44.8-43.4=$ 1.4 more than Mr Sanchez's.
