In order to solve for this, we have to find out how many words Ryan can type in one minute first.

`(600 words)/(12 minutes)` can be simplified into
`(50 words)/(1 minutes)`

(This is just normal simplifying, all you had to do was divide both sides by 12)

Now that we have our rate,
`(50 words)/(1 minutes)`, we can figure out how many words Ryan can type in 20 minutes

`(50 words)/(1 minutes)` * 20/20 =
`(1000 words)/(20 minutes)`

Ryan can type 1000 words in 20 minutes

Method 2:

You can use two fractions in order to solve this equation:

`(600 words)/(12 minutes)` =
`(x words)/(20 minutes)`

The 'x' on the right is a variable because we don't know what the number is.

Simplify:

`(50 words)/(1 minutes)` =
`(x words)/(20 minutes)`

Cross multiply:

1 * x = 50 * 20

x = 1000

Ryan can type 1000 words in 20 minutes
