Janelle has 5 hours to spend training for an upcoming race. She completes her training by running full speed the distance of the race and walking back the same distance to cool down. If she runs at a speed of 9 mph and walks back at a speed of 3 mph how long should she plan to spend walking back?

Final answer:

Janelle should plan to spend 15 hours walking back.

Step-by-step explanation:

To calculate how long Janelle should plan to spend walking back, we first need to find out the distance she runs. Since she runs at a speed of 9 mph for the whole distance of the race, we can use the formula speed = distance / time to find the distance. Rearranging the formula to solve for distance, we have distance = speed * time. Plugging in the values, we have distance = 9 mph * 5 hours = 45 miles.

Since Janelle walks back the same distance, she will also be walking 45 miles. To find the time it takes for her to walk back, we use the formula time = distance / speed. Plugging in the values, we have time = 45 miles / 3 mph = 15 hours.

Therefore, Janelle should plan to spend 15 hours walking back.

Answer:

The distance cover by him walking back is 11.25 miles

Step-by-step explanation:

Given as :

Time for Janelle to spend on training = 5 hours

The running speed of Janelle = 9 mph

The walking back with 3 mph

Let The distance for running and walking is same i.e D miles

SO, Time =
(Distance)/(Speed)

5 =
(D)/(9) +
(D)/(3)

Or, 5 × 9 = D + 3 D

Or, 45 = 4 D

∴ D =
(45)/(4) = 11.25 miles

Hence The distance cover by him walking back is 11.25 miles Answer
