Which data set has a greater spread? Why?

Set A (38, 12, 23, 48, 55, 16, 18)
Set B: (44, 13, 24, 12, 56)
Set BM has a greater spread because its median is greater

The spread of a dataset tells us how much the elements are distant from each other.

So, we look at the distance between the minimum and the maximum values for each dataset:

\begin{array}c\text{Dataset}&\text{Min}&\text{Max}&\text{Difference}\\A&12&55&43\\B&12&56&44\end{array}

So, set B has a greater spread.
