Scott is out shopping at the local bookstore and stumbles on a rare 20-volume set of The Civil War Years: Crisis, Peril, and Triumph. He has wanted this set for years, but unfortunately right now, he’s unable to afford it. If the personality structures proposed by psychoanalytic theory could talk, what would the ego likely say in this situation?

Answer: it may say "you want this now but you can't afford it and you may want to wait until you can afford it"

Step-by-step explanation:

The ego helps us deal with the id which want what it want when it want it , ego helps us connect with reality. So it brings reality to an unrealistic id.

Ego makes us think logically whilst id is making us think without reasoning.

Ego strives to help us avoid what might be a bad outcome of our action.

It considers the norms of the society and help us abide by them.

Eventhough it also seeks pleasure but it want us to attain it in a reasonable way as possible, ego says if we can achieve something without causing harm that is enough.
