How would you describe academic writing to a co-worker who is considering returning to school to eat their degree? How is academic writing similar or different to the writing you do in work or life (everything from emails, reports, social media, etc)? How are audiences similar or different in these contexts?

Thanks for your responses!

Academic writing and writing in the walks of work and life:

Academic writing and writing in the walks of work and life are two different categories of writing.

Academic writing is the one in which writing is done keeping in mind academic aspects and concepts. It includes topics of academic significance, for example writing an answer to a question which is a part of the academic curriculum.

Writing in work and life includes writing articles, blogs and even captions to social media posts. It can be formal and informal as well. Formal writing includes writing letters, notices and conveying other formal information by writing.

Informal writing is free from any predefined rules and constraints. One can write everything they feel under informal writing.
