Did you know that lions are friendly? Lions are very sociable, at least with each other. They live in groups called "prides." Once in a pride, the females stay together for life. As a result, the females are able to pass on important knowledge to the cubs, including the pride's territory and the best places to hunt and find water. The females do all the hunting for food. Answer:

The paragraph contains 5 supporting sentences.

Step-by-step explanation:

A supporting sentence adds more details to the topic sentence. In the paragraph, the topic sentence introduces this idea - lions are friendly. Thus, the subsequent sentences should add more details along the topic sentence.

  • Hunting is not a supporting sentence. A lion can hunt alone and still get food. That is for protection.
  • Similarly, passing the best information is not being friendly. It is a survival strategy.

Therefore, all other sentences support the topic sentence except the two in bullet points.
