The ratio of payment for gas to payment for electricity is 8 : 7

Solution:

Given, Carmen paid a gas and electricity utility bill of $75

The electricity part of the bill was $35

We have to write the ratio of the payment for gas to the payment for electricity.

Now we know that,

Total bill = electricity bill + gas bill

75 = 35 + gas bill

gas bill = 75 – 35

gas bill = 40

Ratio of payment for gas to payment for electricity is given as:

\frac{\text { gas bill }}{\text { electricity bill }}=(40)/(35)=(8)/(7)

(a)/(b) can be written in fraction as a:b

Hence the ratio of payment for gas to payment for electricity is 8 : 7
