Answer:

A derived unit is called so because it is the product of two other more basic units. The basic unit of area is the cubic meter (m³) for volume. By derived unit, it refers to any given quantity which cannot be measured straight with any device. For example, we can't measure density of a substance with a rule, or scale, or bucket.
