A boy coasts down a hill on a sled, reaching a level surface at the bottom with a speed of 6.1 m/s. If the coefficient of friction between the sled's runners and snow is 0.055 and the boy and sled together weigh 480 N, how far does the sled travel on the level surface before coming to rest?______ m

Answer:

s = 34.48 m

Explanation:

Boy and sled weigh 480 N

mass =
(480)/(9.81) = 48.93 Kg

Force due to friction = 0.055 x 480

=26.4 N

De acceleration due to force of friction =>

F = ma

26.4 = 48.93 x a

a = 0.5395 m/s²

initial velocity = 6.1 m/s

let distance traveled be S

v² = u² - 2 aS

0 = 6.1² - 2 x 0.5395 x S

1.079 s = 37.21

s = 34.48 m
