Answer:

Lauren used 96 pounds of type B coffee

Explanation:

Lauren's coffee shop makes Blend that has a mixture of two types of coffee.

Let a = number of pounds of type A coffee used.

Let b = number of pounds of type B coffee used.

Type A cost Lauren 5.60 per pound and type B coffee cost 4.05 per pound. Therefore,

Cost of a blend a pounds of type A coffee and b pounds of type B coffee will be

$(5.6a + 4.05b)

This month Lauren made 174 pounds of the blend, for a total cost of 825.60. This means total number of both blends for the month is a+ b.

The equations are

a + b = 174

5.6a + 4.05b = 825.6 - - - - - - - -1

Put a = 174 - b in equation 1

5.6(174-b) + 4.05b= 825.6

974.4 -5.6b + 4.05b = 825.6

-5.6b + 4.05b = 825.6 -974.4

-1.55b= -148.8

b = -148.8/-1.55

= 96 pounds

Put b = 96 in a = 174-b

a = 174 - 96 = 78 pounds

Lauren used 96 pounds of type B coffee
