you'd do this becasue you are taking the 7 and essentially distributing it to the d and 4

12. Im not 100% sure but

the area as a sum would be
y^(2)+3y

the area as a product would be y(y+3)

you'd do it that way becasue now you are distributing the y to all the numbers and the other y.
