What compromises did the north and south try to make over the issue of slavery? Why didn’t they work?

Answer:The North did not need slaves very much anyway because of their agrictural. But, the South didn't want ot give in slavery because they had many plantations and large amounts of land. Which they could not mantain by themselves. Also a compromise for example is Compromise of 1850. It was supposed to take in fugitive or runaway slaves. In the compromise the North was supposed to help the South capture their slaves back because many were running away.
