What is the distance between the points (4,-5) and (-1,2)

Answer: d= √(74)

Explanation:

the distance formula is:

d = √((x2 - x1)^2 +(y2-y1)^2) . (all of that is under sq. root)

I do it i my head to make it much easier:

the distance from 4 to -1 is 5

and the distance from -5 to 2 is 7

so in your paper it should look like

d = √(5^2 + 7^2)

d= √(25+49)

d= √(74)

this can't be simplified so that is the answer.
