To simply we must add up like terms. We can add up terms if they have the same variable & power (i.e. 5y³ + 10y³ = 15y³, 10y⁰ (same thing as 10) - 9y⁰ (same thing as 9) = 1, etc.)

Let's rearrange the equation so all our y-terms are on one side & our constants on the other:

6y + 10y + 2 + 8

From there we can add the first two terms since they both have y¹ aka y.

16y + 2 + 8

From here we can add the last two terms since they both have y⁰ aka no variable.

16y + 10

We can not add from here because they both have variables with different powers.
