A space shuttle and a damaged satellite are 799 mi apart. The shuttle

travels at 560 mi/h, and the satellite at 186 mi/hr, in the
same direction. How long (hr) will it take the shuttle to
overtake the satellite, and in what distance (mi)?

Answer: It will take 1.07 hour for the shuttle to overtake the satellite in 599 miles.

Explanation:

Since we have given that

Distance between a space shuttle and a damaged satellite = 799 miles

Speed of shuttle = 560 miles per hour

Speed of satellite = 186 miles per hour

Since they move in the same direction.

So, Relative speed = 560+186=746 miles per hour

We need to find the time taken by shuttle to overtake the satellite.

So, time taken would be

(Distance)/(Speed)=(799)/(746)=1.07\ hours

Distance would be

560* 1.07\\\\=599\ miles

Hence, It will take 1.07 hour for the shuttle to overtake the satellite in 599 miles.
