Explanation:

The person gave you $18, first, we will charge the six soft drinks, that each one costs $1

So the six drinks cost $6

the remaining money is $18 - $6 = $12

Now, with the $12 the customer wants to buy hot dogs, that each cost $1.75

The number of hot dogs can be obtained by dividing the total money by the price of a hot dog:

N = $12/1.75 = 6.8

But you can not buy an 0.8 of a hot dog, so we must round to the whole number:

N = 6

So the maximum number of hot dogs that the money can buy is 6
