The author says that she was a perfectionist when it came to painting it and describes it as a place of serenity and healing. Sis, the author's niece, as very interested in the sun parlor, but the author refused to let her see it because she is very proud of her work and wanted to keep it from being ruined. Later in the story, her aunt passes away in the room and now she keeps it locked up because she doesn't want to be reminded of that painful memory.
