How many atoms are in H2O?

Add the subscripts of the molecule to get the total number of atoms in it. Keep in mind that if a symbol is followed by nothing but space, its subscript is 1. A water molecule has three atoms in it.

Water has a chemical formula of H2O, which indicates that it contains two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. By including the subscripts, I discovered this. Since oxygen has a subscript of 1, and hydrogen has a subscript of 2, there are a total of 3 atoms.

Thanks
