The table shows the price of potatoes. The price varies directly with the weight in pounds.

Explain what the origin represents in this situation.

What is the unit rate for this direct variation? If the unit rate is less than one, put a zero to the left of the decimal point.

Answer: The unit rate is $0.99.

and the origin represents no potatoes means no money i.e. (0,0).

Explanation:

Since we have given the table.

Cost of 3 potatoes = $2.97

Cost of 4 potatoes = $3.96

Since there is direct variation.

So, unit rate would be

(2.97)/(3)=(3.96)/(4)=\$0.99

Hence, the unit rate is $0.99.

and the origin represents no potatoes means no money i.e. (0,0).

Answer:

The origin represents no potatoes, thus no money.

The variation is 0.99 per pound.

Explanation:

If the price of 3 pounds is $2.97, that means each pound costs $0.99

So, the price of 4 pounds of potatoe, is 4 x $0.99 = $3.96

Same for 6 and 10:

6 x $0.99 = $5.94

10 x $0.99 = $9.90

So, the variation is $0.99 for pound of potatoe
