The length of a rectangle is 2 times the width. If the area is 18 square feet, then what is the length of the rectangle, in feet?

Answer:

The length of the rectangle is 6 ft while the width is 3 ft.

Explanation:

The formula for finding the area of a rectangle is

area = width x length and vice versa

lets substitute the numbers that we already know

18 = w x 2w

We know from our times tables that 2 times 9 equals 18, and also that 3 times 6 equals 18.

6 is two times 3, so that works out!! Lets give it a try

18 = 3 x 3(2)

18 = 3 x 6

18 = 18 !!!

and we are done!
