-3y-1= 4y-5

Move 4y to the other side

Sign changes from +4y to -4y

-3y-4y-1= 4y-4y-5

-3y-4y-1=-5

-7y-1= -5

Move -1 to the other side

Sign changes from -1 to +1

-7y-1+1= -5+1

-7y= -5+1

-7y= -4

Divide both sides by -7

-7y/-7= -4/-7

Cross out -7 and -7, divide both sides by 7. Then becomes 1*1*y= y

y= -4/-7

Answer: y= 4/7
