If a car can travel 220 miles on 12 gallons of gas, how many gallons

should it take to drive 500 miles?​

Set up a ratio of known to unknown:

Let X = the amount of gas needed for 500 miles:

220/12 = 500/x

Cross multiply:

220x = 6000

Divide both sides by 220:

X = 6000 / 220

x = 27.27 gallons (round answer as needed).
