as I read it, the cylinder's level went from 8.0mL to 16.0mL, namely it went up by 8mL, so the 9.6 grams mineral displaced 8mL, thus it density is simply 9.6/8.


\bf \cfrac{9.6}{8}\cfrac{g}{mL}\implies 1.2(g)/(mL)
