A 5.4 mW laser beam has its electric field vertical. If it passes through a polarizer with its transmission axis at 60 degree to the vertical, what's the power of the transmitted beam?

2. Polarized light passes through a polarizer, and 70 % gets through. Find the angle between the light's electric field and the polarizer's transmission axis.

Answer:

power 1.35 mw

ANGLE IS 33.27 degree

Step-by-step explanation:

from Malus law we have following relation

I = I_0 cos^2\theta

we know that

power = intensity * area

A*I_0 cos^2\theta = I*A

I = I_0 cos^2\theta
= 5.4*10^(-3) cos^2{60}

= 0.0054*0.25

= 1.35 mw

2

I = I_o*cos^2(\theta)

\theta = cos^(-1)(\sqrt{((I)/(I_o))}

=
cos^(-1)(√((0.70)))

= cos^(-1)(0.836)

= 33.27 degrees
