Answer:

The actual dimensions of the Check-out area are 25 m and 15 m

Explanation:

* Lets explain how to solve the problem

- Look to the attached figure

- There is a drawing for the Floor plan of library

- The Floor plan of library has three areas Books , Study area and

Check-out area

- The dimensions of the Study area are 2 cm and 4 cm

- The dimensions of Books area are 3 cm and 4 cm

- The dimensions of the Check-out area are (2 + 3) cm and (7 - 4) cm

∴ The dimensions of the Check-out area are 5 cm and 3 cm

- The scale of drawing is 1 cm : 5 m

∵ The scale drawing is the ratio between the drawing length and

the actual length

∵ The terms of the ratio must have same units

∴ The terms of the scale drawing must have same units

∵ The scale drawing is 1 cm : 5 m

∵ 1 m = 100 cm

∴ 5 m = 5 × 100 = 500 cm

The scale drawing is 1 cm : 500 cm = 1 : 500

∵ The dimensions of the Check-out area are 5 cm and 3 cm

∵ 1 : 500

5 : actual length

3 : actual width

- By using cross multiplication we can find the actual dimensions

The actual length = (5 × 500)/1 = 2500 cm

The actual width = (3 × 500)/1 = 1500 cm

∵ 1 cm = 1/100 m

∴ The actual length = 2500 × 1/100 = 25 m

∴ The actual width = 1500 × 1/100 = 15 m

The actual dimensions of the Check-out area are 25 m and 15 m
