9. Emma wants to go swimming the first day the pool opens in May, but she is worried it will be too cold
since summer only just started. She only likes to swim in the water if the pool is at least 82°F. The

10. Challenge: Stephen is worried he has a fever. His dad is a scientist though, and only has a thermometer
that measures in Kelvin, and it measures Stephen's temperature to be 312 Kelvin. If Stephen's
temperature is above 100°F, he isn't allowed to go to school. Can Stephen go to school today? Show

Answer:

8.

0 degree Celsius =
(0*(9)/(5))+32 = 32 Fahrenheit

100 degrees Celsius =
(100*(9)/(5))+32 = 212° Fahrenheit

9.

Emma likes to swim in the water if the pool is at least 82°F.

The thermometer in the pool reads 24°C.

24 degrees Celsius =
(24*(9)/(5))+32 = 75.2° Fahrenheit

No, Emma cannot swim in the pool.

10.

Stephen's temperature is 312 Kelvin.

In Fahrenheit it becomes:

[(312-273.15)*9/5]+32 = 101.93°F

As this temperature is above 100°F , so Stephen cannot go to school today.
