It is so because the point of zero field will not be between the charge because of opposite nature of charges. It will be on the other side of smaller charge.Applying formula of electric field we have

k x3.18 x 10⁻⁶ / x² = k x- 6.36 x 10⁻⁶ /( L+ x)²

=( L+x)²/x² = 6.36/3.18=2

(L + x) /x = √2 = 1.414

L + x = 1.414 x

.414 x = L

x = L/.414
