5+b = -b - 2(1-b)

First, use distributive property to get rid of the parenthesis.

5+b = -b - 2 + 2b

Then combine like terms.

5+b = -2 + b

Try to get the variable on one side of the equation. We're going to subtract b from both sides, but something weird is going to happen.

5+b = -2+b

5 = -2 Wuuuu??!!??

Okay that's not true. We tried to get all the b's together but the b's just fell out of the equation. AND left behind a false statement.

This means that there is no solution.

There is NO number that you can fill in for b that will make a true statement.
