steps:

1: Click on the start menu to open it.

2: Click on programs and find the program for which you want to creat an icon or item.

3: Move your mouse pointer to the program you want to use.

4: Depress and hold down the the right mouse button while you drag the item to the Quick Launch toolbar section of the taskbar.

5: When you release the right mouse button, a short menu will appear.

6: Choose " Create shortcut here". An icon will be created in the Quick Launch toolbar on the taskbar.

The following are the steps which would be helpful to add icons on the taskbar

1. Select the program which needs to be added to the taskbar. This can be done by selecting the program from the start menu, then go to program, next select the desired program. You can also you search box to search and select the desired program.

2. Hold the mouse on the program, drag and drop on the taskbar ie. on Quick Launch toolbar. If this toolbar is not visible, then right click on the Taskbar =>Toolbars=>Quick Launch Toolbar

3. Now the program will appear as a short cut in the taskbar.
