Answer:

y = ½x - 14

Explanation:

First, you need to know that parallel lines in Geometry and Algebra mean that they have SIMILAR rate of changes [slopes]. So, ½ stays as is, and your solution is as follows:

-17 = ½[-6] + b

+ 3 -3

+3

----------------

-14 = b

Your parallel equation is:

y = ½x - 14

Remember that the slope intercept formula is:

y = mx + b

m is the slope

b is the y-intercept

If lines are parallel then they have the same slope (m)

This means that the slope of the line will be
(1)/(2)

y =
(1)/(2)x + b

Now we must find b

To do that you must plug in the point the line goes through in the x and y of the equation.

(-6, -17)

-17 =
(1)/(2)(-6) + b

-17 = -3 + b

-14 = b

y =
(1)/(2)x - 14

Hope this helped!
