The description of Kenny makes you think of him as tough, or mysterious. Its used to create your impression of him. The narrator uses physical description rather than personality descriptions, to create a “Unknown” vibe to him. “…with a pale skin…” most likely reference that he’s supernatural. Although people can have pale skin, pale skin is often used in stories to create an unnatural being; zombies, monster, etc. “He was tall, gaunt…” creates a tough tone. All of this is important because it adds on to the central idea of the passage. Tone is important because it helps develops the vibe and the theme of the story. From observation, this is most likely an excerpt from a mysterious passage. You can use the tone, word choice, and message to more understand the passage.
