Answer: He didn't want to upset the balance of the free and slave states.

Explanation: Andrew Jackson was not against slavery at all But he treated his slaves as well as they would be treated under these circumstances and fed them, clothed them and worked them in moderation. The addition of another slave state would upset the balance between the free states and the slave states.
