An argumentative essay is an essay that you write to try to prove a point or convince someone about something.
For example, you might be assigned to write an argumentative essay about schools allowing pets. This essay would detail whether pets should or shouldn’t be allowed, and a few reasons why or why not.
Usually, the format you would use would be to have the following:
- An introduction paragraph, where you tell about what your topic is, etc.
- Three body paragraphs, each with a separate reason proving your argument.
- A conclusion paragraph, usually restating each main point.
(I actually have to do the exact same thing for state testing tomorrow at school, so I wish you good luck!)
