Foreshadow
Verb
A literary device used to hint at events yet to come - and to keep readers guessing.
Example
Romeo and Juliet
One of the many moments of foreshadowing is in the play of act 1, scene 4, where Romeo's friends want him to go to the Capulet ball. Romeo, however, in lines 113-120, expresses that he fears the party is a stepping stone to what will be his untimely death. Of course, his words are foreshadowing the tragic end of his relationship with Juliet, whom he meets at the Capulet party.
I hope this helps you.
I read the book three times and watched the movie.
