On a map of campground, the swimming pool is located at (2, -3 ), the camp store at ( 2, 8), and the tent at ( -7, 8 ). If each unit represents 5 feet , how many feet will it be to walk from the tent to the store and then to the pool? Please show the work, thank you !

Answer:

100\ ft

Explanation:

we know that

the formula to calculate the distance between two points is equal to

d=\sqrt{(y2-y1)^(2)+(x2-x1)^(2)}

Let

A(-7,8) -----> coordinates of the tent

B(2,8) ----> coordinates of the store

C(2,-3) ----> coordinates of the swimming pool

step 1

Find the distance from the tent to the store

A(-7,8),B(2,8)

substitute in the formula

dAB=\sqrt{(8-8)^(2)+(2+7)^(2)}

dAB=\sqrt{(0)^(2)+(9)^(2)}

dAB=9\ units

step 2

Find the distance from the store to the pool

B(2,8),C(2,-3)

substitute in the formula

dBC=\sqrt{(-3-8)^(2)+(2-2)^(2)}

dBC=\sqrt{(-11)^(2)+(0)^(2)}

dBC=11\ units

step 3

Adds the distances

9\ units+11\ units=20\ units

Convert to feet

20\ units=20*5=100\ ft
