Answer:

The equation that represents it is 3/2(x) + 1 = 5/4(x) +5

and the solution of x is 16

Explanation:

By reading the question we can quite easily figure out the equation that represents it to be 3/2(x) + 1 = 5/4(x) +5

the solving procedure looks like

3/2(x) + 1 = 5/4(x) +5

subtract one from both sides, while simultaneously subtracting the 5/4 from both sides.

we get

3/2(x) - 5/4(x) = 5-1

find the common denominator for 3/2(x) and 5/4(x)

then subtract, and it will simplify to

6/4(x) - 5/4(x) = 4

1/4(x) = 4

multiply both sides by 4

x = 16

Answer: x = 16

Explanation:

Let G be Gracie's shells

Let x be Mary's shells

Let N be Nancy's shells

G = 1.25x + 5

N = 1.5x + 1

G = N

1.25x + 5 = 1.5x + 1

4 = 0.25x

Multiply both sides by 4

x = 16
