Answer:

Slaves had no freedom and no properties. They were treated as a product, which means that they didn't have any money nor could they earn it. They were forced to work for those who were considered to be their owners and they could be punished for not doing what they were supposed to do (considering the context). The life of a slave is a miserable life.
