Why do females rarely get the disease hemophilia?

a mutation would have to occur in both copies of the gene to cause the disorder

Hemophilia is a disease located on the X chromosome. Females have two copies of the X chromosome, so it would have to be on both copies in order to effect a female. However, a male only has one copy of the X chromosome, so males are more susceptible.
