What are the steps to divide 417.2 divided by 17.2 (I know what the answer is but how do you get to it)

You could start by noticing

`(417.2)/(17.2)=((4172)/(10))/((172)/(10))=(4172)/(172)`

so you don't have to worry about the decimal point anymore. Then carry out the division as usual.

172*24 = 4128

so we have

4172 = 4128 + 44 = 172*24 + 44
