How to write the shifted function?

For a general function f(x), a horizontal shift of N units is written as:

g(x) = f(x + N)

if N > 0, the shift is to the left.

if N < 0, the shift is to the right.

So a shift of the left of 4 units means that we must have N = 4.

for f(x) = √x

The shift of 4 units is:

g(x) = f(x + 4) = √(x + 4)
