x² - 6x = 14

Use the method of completing the square on the left side of the equation

add (half the coefficient of the x- term )² to both sides

x² + 2(- 3)x + (- 3)² = 14 + (- 3)²

x² - 6x + 9 = 14 + 9 ← left side is a perfect square, hence

(x - 3)² = 23 → B
