I think of a number i multiply this number by 8, then subtract 66 the result is twice the number tat I was thinking of. What is it?

Answer:

Let y be the number that you were thinking of.

If the number that you get at the end is twice of your original number, the number will be 2y

y×8-66=2y

8y-66=2y

8y-2y=66

6y=66

y=11

The number that you were thinking of is 11

You can form this equation:

(call the unknown number x)

8x - 66 = 2x

Add 66 to both sides:

8x = 2x + 66

Subtract 2x from both sides:

6x = 66

Divide both sides by 6:

x = 11 <== this is the number
