Can the sides of a triangle have lengths 2, 4, and 7?

Answer:

No, they can't

Explanation:

According to the Triangle Inequality Theorem, the largest side cannot be greater than the sum of the other two sides.

2+4= 6<7

As you can see from this Equation NOT any two side are greater than the third making this NOT possibly be a tringle.

2+7=9>4

4+7=11>2

Yes. It would be a scalene triangle.

However, a right triangle cannot have those lengths (because if we inputted the values into the Pythagorean Theorem, it wouldn’t be a true equation).
