A Christmas jar contains 550 m&ms. Of all the m&ms, 2/5 are green and the rest are red. What is the ratio of green to red m&ms?

Explanation:

it gives you the answer with the fraction. A ratio is basically saying with x:y for every x number of one thing there are y number of another. In this case we know 2/5 will be green, so how many will be red? 3/5. So for every 2 greens there are 3 reds.

Another way of looking at it is for the totals. there are 550 total, so 2/5 of that is green. 2/5 of 550 is 220, while 3/5 is 330 so that means of the 550, the ratio is 220:330. Kinda like simplifying fractions where 220/550 is the same thing as 2/5
