Main idea of a text can be stated in either the first or last sentence. Also main idea is what the text is about as a whole

The main idea of the text is the BIG idea or the most important part of the text. As you read, what is talked about the most? It can include specific details, but it is usually an opinion with facts that are stated to support it. For example, I can write a paragraph about elephants in Africa. The main idea is, "Hunters need to be arrested and fined for killing these beautiful animals." This is an opinion, but it can be supported by many details and facts. This is the hardest part reading. Start by eliminating the answers you know it CANNOT be. That will help to pick the right one.
