Explanation:

the sidewalk extends 2 m in all directions around which makes a 34 x 24 rectangle. The area of that rectangle is 816 sq. m and the area of the patio is 600 sq. m. Subtract the patio area from the entire area to get the difference of 216 sq. m for just the sidewalk.
